Former presidential candidate and ex-Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peak Newspaper reports.
Obi announced his decision on Tuesday at a coalition meeting held at the Nike Lake Resort, Enugu, marking a major political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the event, Obi said the move was driven by a shared vision for national renewal.
“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” he stated. “We will resist rigging of elections by every lawful means in 2027.”
The defection is expected to reshape opposition politics, as the ADC-led coalition positions itself as a strong alternative ahead of the next presidential race.
