The Nigeria Police Force has assured NYSC members deployed for the Osun State governorship election that adequate security measures are in place to protect them before, during and after Saturday’s poll, Peak Newspaper reports.
The assurance was given by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniedu Okokon, and the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Osun election, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, during a visit to NYSC members in the state on Thursday.
The visit was carried out on the directive of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu as part of efforts to reassure corps members and other election personnel ahead of the August 15 governorship election. The officers urged the corps members to remain calm, professional and committed to their duties.
The police said the safety of the corps members remains a priority as they carry out their national assignment. The corps members reportedly expressed readiness to participate in the electoral exercise despite security concerns surrounding the poll.
The assurance comes as security agencies intensify preparations for the election. More than 25,000 security personnel have been deployed across Osun, while INEC has also mobilised NYSC members as ad-hoc election officials for Saturday’s vote.
