President Bola Tinubu has approved the complete reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway using reinforced concrete pavement, a move aimed at providing a more durable and long-lasting solution to the road’s recurring deterioration, Peak Newspaper reports.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the approval during a briefing in Abuja, explaining that the decision followed the continued failure of sections of the expressway despite repeated maintenance and rehabilitation efforts. According to the minister, the adoption of reinforced concrete pavement is expected to significantly improve the road’s lifespan and reduce the need for frequent repairs.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is one of Nigeria’s busiest highways, serving as a major transport corridor linking Lagos with the South-West, North, and other parts of the country. The reconstruction is expected to enhance road safety, improve travel time, and boost economic activities along the route.
The approval forms part of the Federal Government’s broader infrastructure development programme, which also includes several other strategic road projects across the country.
