A tense moment played out at the Anambra State Peace Accord signing ceremony in Awka on Monday when the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Iyom Uche Ekwunife, noticeably declined to acknowledge Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Peak Newspaper reports.
In a short video that has since circulated online, Ekwunife walked past the Governor without exchanging pleasantries, despite his apparent attempt to engage her.
The incident came shortly after a sharp verbal confrontation between the two, during which Soludo allegedly questioned the former senator’s capacity and readiness to contest in the forthcoming governorship election.
Ekwunife swiftly responded, accusing the Governor of arrogance and belittling political opponents instead of focusing on governance.
Governor Soludo, however, maintained that leadership demands accountability and competence, insisting his comments were not personal but issue-based.
The brief standoff added drama to the peace accord ceremony, which was organized to promote mutual respect and nonviolence ahead of the Anambra gubernatorial election.
Political analysts say the episode reflects the growing tension and fierce rivalry between the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the APC as the race for the state’s top seat heats up.
