Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly set to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, Peak Newspaper reports.
Sources reveal that Kwankwaso has already initiated talks with ADC leaders, with Buba Galadima leading negotiations on his behalf.
His planned defection comes after the Court of Appeal affirmed the leadership of the NNPP faction led by Agbo Major, a development seen as a setback for Kwankwaso’s political camp.
Meanwhile, the ADC is gaining ground in Kano, with Ibrahim Ali Amin emerging as a key figure, attracting increasing support from political stakeholders across the state.
However, discussions are still ongoing, as no final agreement has been reached on party structure and control.
The ADC is expected to conduct open congresses and inclusive primaries, which may differ from Kwankwaso’s preference for consensus-based candidate selection.
It also remains unclear whether Kwankwaso will support a governorship candidate from his camp or align with other contenders within the party.
