Unknown gunmen have attacked a worship centre in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting several worshippers during a Sunday service today, Peak Newspaper reports
According to reports, the incident occurred at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo community, where members had gathered for worship before the attackers stormed the premises, firing shots and causing panic.
According to eyewitnesses, the congregation fled in different directions as the gunmen carried out the attack.
Reports indicate that eight worshippers were initially abducted, but three managed to escape, leaving five victims still in captivity.
The Kwara State Government has condemned the attack, describing it as disturbing and unacceptable, especially as it targeted a place of worship.
Authorities commended the swift response of security operatives, local vigilantes, and forest guards, whose efforts helped some victims regain freedom.
Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and track down the attackers, while residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
