Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has paid tribute to the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, describing him as a leader who “led and served” with humility and integrity, Peak Newspaper reports.
Jonathan made the remark in a commemorative message marking the anniversary of Yar’Adua’s passing, reflecting on his time in office and his commitment to democratic values and national unity.
He noted that the late president’s leadership style was defined by simplicity, respect for the rule of law, and dedication to the welfare of Nigerians. Jonathan, who served as vice president under Yar’Adua before succeeding him in 2010, said his former boss left behind a legacy of service and accountability.
Yar’Adua, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2007 until his death in 2010, is often remembered for his efforts to promote electoral reforms and his amnesty programme in the Niger Delta.
Jonathan urged Nigerians to continue to uphold the ideals of good governance and selfless service exemplified by the late leader.
The tribute adds to ongoing remembrance activities honouring Yar’Adua’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development.
