The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called on the Federal Government to investigate and, if warranted, arrest and prosecute Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir over alleged hate speech linked to the 2027 general elections, Peak Newspaper reports.
The commission said inflammatory rhetoric capable of inciting violence or discrimination should not be allowed to undermine peaceful political participation ahead of the polls.
The NHRC urged relevant authorities to ensure that any allegations against the cleric are handled in accordance with the law and that individuals found culpable are held accountable.
The development comes amid growing concerns over political and religious rhetoric ahead of the 2027 elections.
