Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has appealed to members of Nigeria’s security agencies not to be discouraged by his recent remarks at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference, saying his criticism was directed only at corrupt elements within the system, Peak Newspaper reports.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, VDM urged Nigerians to circulate his message to friends and relatives serving in the military, police, Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigeria Customs Service.
According to him, although his speech at the NBA conference criticised what he described as “bad eggs,” saboteurs and sellouts within the security architecture, he recognised that some dedicated officers might have felt discouraged by his comments.
The activist said his access to information on the country’s security challenges has also exposed him to the sacrifices made daily by many security personnel in protecting lives and property.
He stressed that while there are officers who undermine the system, many others remain patriotic and committed to defending Nigeria.
VDM apologised to those he described as genuine patriots serving in the military, police, immigration and customs, urging them not to lose morale.
He assured security personnel that Nigerians appreciate their sacrifices and stand firmly behind those working honestly to safeguard the country.
“I apologise to the patriots sacrificing for our great nation. The military, the police, immigration and customs should not be discouraged. We the people are right behind you,” he said.
