A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced two men, Adebiyi Olusola and Oguntola John, to 30 days’ imprisonment for roaming naked in public, Peak Newspaper reports.
The convicts were arraigned on a one-count charge of conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, contrary to Section 181(1)(d)(h) of the Ekiti State Laws, 2021.
According to the police prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, the offence was committed at about 4:00 a.m. on July 13 in the Palace Area of Ado-Ekiti.
He told the court that the two men were seen walking naked around the palace vicinity and along a public highway within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District, an act he said was capable of causing a breach of public peace.
The defendants pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to them. Their counsel, Ogunleye Abiola, represented them during the proceedings.
Delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, noting that the defendants’ guilty plea further strengthened the case against them.
The court subsequently sentenced both men to 30 days’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.
