Residents and commuters around the General Paint area of Lekki have raised concerns over a surge in robbery incidents, calling for urgent intervention from the Nigeria Police Force, Peak Newspaper reports
In a complaint addressed to the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, a resident described the security situation in the area as alarming, alleging that hoodlums—commonly referred to as “area boys” and touts—operate openly, sometimes armed with firearms.
According to the report, the attacks occur both in the early hours of the morning and at night, leaving residents and road users vulnerable. The complainant revealed that they were personally robbed alongside several others during an early morning incident, with valuables forcefully taken.
The situation is said to be particularly dangerous for motorists experiencing vehicle breakdowns, as criminals reportedly target individuals in vulnerable conditions on the road.
Residents also expressed concern over the growing presence of idle youths in the area, warning that their activities pose a serious threat to public safety and order.
They have therefore called on the police authorities to intensify patrols, improve surveillance, and implement proactive security measures to curb the trend and restore confidence in the safety of lives and property.
The appeal urged the Lagos State Police Command to take swift and decisive action to address the worsening security situation in the area.
