A joint team from the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society has conducted an on-the-spot assessment of flood-affected communities in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The exercise followed a report from the Gada Local Government Council after a devastating flood on September 8, 2025, which destroyed homes, farmlands, and key public facilities in Gada, Tsitse, and Gilbade communities.
Led by SEMA officials, the team identified 2,814 persons affected by the disaster, while hundreds of hectares of farmland were submerged. Local representatives — Hon. Kabiru Usman (Gada Ward), Hon. Sahabi Abdullahi (Tsitse Ward), and Hon. Ahmed Tambari (Gilbade Ward) — confirmed that two children and one elderly person lost their lives, while eleven others sustained injuries.
Public structures including the Dantudu Bobawa Mosque and several schools — Damarki, Tunga, and Musuki Primary Schools — were also badly damaged.
The assessment, according to SEMA officials, aims to guide government and humanitarian agencies in providing immediate relief support and long-term recovery assistance to the affected communities.
