Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced a brief break from public engagements on the advice of his doctors.
In a statement posted on his official X handle today, Obi revealed that he began feeling unwell while attending an event in Enugu.
“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days’ rest. In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend,” he wrote.
The politician apologised for any inconvenience his absence might cause and appealed for understanding.
Before the announcement, Obi had been actively engaged in several events.
In Enugu, he spoke at a tourism forum before travelling to Anambra, where he donated N10 million to the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria to support the acquisition and revitalisation of Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South.
He commended the Diocese’s plan to transform the facility into a full health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology.
“Healthcare remains one of the most meaningful investments we can make. Faith-based organisations have shown, time and again, that with the right support, they can deliver excellence,” Obi noted.
From Isulo, Obi proceeded to Owerri, Imo State, where he attended a dinner organised by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
While stepping back briefly for medical reasons, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to healthcare initiatives and what he called the vision of building “a healthier Nigeria.”
