As the visionary leadership of the Rector of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree (OSPOLY), Mr. Kehinde Alabi, continues to galvanize innovation, technology, and academic development, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted the institution approval to commence a new programme—National Diploma (ND) in Renewable Energy Engineering Technology.
The approval follows a rigorous Inspection and Verification Visit conducted by the Board at the institution on 21st and 22nd November, 2025.
In an approval letter issued by the NBTE Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, and signed by the Director, Polytechnic and Allied Programmes Department, Dr. Mrs. Fatima Kabir Umar, the Board confirmed OSPOLY’s authorization to run the ND Renewable Energy Engineering Technology programme with a capacity of one stream of 60 students.
“With reference to the Digital Resources Inspection Verification Visitations carried out by the Board to your institution from 21st to 22nd November, 2025, I am directed to inform you that the Board has granted approval to your institution to offer ND Renewable Energy Engineering Technology programme (one stream of 60 students) with effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.
“Admission of students into the programme should commence from the 2026/2027 session; otherwise, the approval lapses and admission would only be allowed after a fresh resource inspection visitation is carried out at the instance of the institution.
“The approved programme will be due for full accreditation visitation when the first set of students is in the fourth semester of study.
“It is the responsibility of the institution to invite the Board to carry out the full accreditation exercise when due, as failure to do so within the specified period will disqualify it from making further admissions into the programme,” the letter reads.
Speaking with Peak Newspaper Nigeria, the Head of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Engr. Mayowa Omotayo, commended the Rector, Mr. Kehinde Alabi, for facilitating the approval of the new programme.
“The Rector of OSPOLY, Mr. Kehinde Alabi, is an emblem of hard work, courage, and academic development,. His leadership is powerfully marked by research, development, innovation and multidimensional achievements—under his leadership, the institution has recorded numerous breakthroughs and the new department is just another one.” Omotayo stated.
He described the approval of the Renewable Energy Engineering Technology programme as a “dream come true,” expressing his passion for skill acquisition, sustainable technology, and academic innovation.
Highlighting what the Renewable Energy Engineering program entails, Omotayo explained that “Renewable Energy as a course, often called Renewable Energy Engineering Technology or Renewable Energy Technology focuses on how energy is generated from natural, sustainable sources and how these systems are designed, installed, operated, and maintained.”
Similarly, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Iree Chapter, and Head of the Architectural Technology Department, Mr. Folorunsho, described the development as a significant milestone for the institution.
“The approval of the new department is a germane step in the progress of the institution. It will bring massive development to the Polytechnic, Osun State, and Nigeria at large,” he said.
Nevertheless, Omotayo expressed gratitude to the Rector, Kehinde Alabi; Deputy Rector, Dr Seun Oyeleke; entire management team; ASUP Chairman, Comr. Folorunsho S.K; Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Engr Ogunwemimo; members of Staff of Electrical/Electronic Engineering Department; HODs and members of the staff of the faculty of Engineering, especially the Mechanical Engineering department, “for their relentless effort and support to climb the new milestone of tapping into Renewable Energy Engineering, as a new program.”
