Lawyer Ivie Omorogie has urged Nigerians to recognize their role in shaping the country’s political leadership, arguing that citizens cannot continue to blame the presidency and government officials for every challenge facing the nation without examining their own contributions to the political process, Peak Newspaper reports.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Omorogie shared his views on governance, political accountability and the responsibility of citizens in determining the quality of leadership they receive.

He suggested that the actions and decisions of elected officials are closely connected to the choices made by the people during elections and the broader political process.

According to the lawyer, Nigerians must move beyond constantly criticizing those in government and begin to reflect on the role they play in determining who occupies positions of authority.

He maintained that the government should not be treated as an entirely separate institution from society because those who eventually emerge as leaders come from the same population they govern.

In his remarks, Omorogie stated: “You can’t sit at home blaming the presidency or blaming the government for everything when the government are a direct reflection of the people from which they are picked.”

His statement suggests that citizens also have a responsibility to examine the standards they uphold when selecting political leaders. He appeared to be making the point that accountability should not rest exclusively on elected officials, but should also involve the electorate, whose decisions influence the direction of governance.

Omorogie’s comments have drawn attention to the broader conversation about citizens’ participation in democracy and the need for Nigerians to become more conscious of their political choices. His argument places emphasis on the relationship between the people and those entrusted with public office.
