Citing poor leadership, ideological dysfunctionality and lack of a solid structure to win elections— a core goal of a political party, a Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and House of Assembly candidate of the PDP in the 2023 Ondo House of Assembly election, Otunba Dotun Olorunyomi has officially resigned from PDP to join the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Peak Newspaper Nigeria reports.

Otunba Dotun, in his resignation letter, dated July 14, 2025 and addressed to the PDP Chairman of the Odigbo Local Government, Odigbo ward, in Ondo state, appreciated the leadership of the Party and informed it’s leadership of his decision to resign from the party..

“I hereby submit my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective Monday, July 14th, 2025. This marks the culmination of a remarkable journey and the beginning of a new chapter. After introspective consultations with my trusted allies, supporters, and confidants, I have resolved to relinquish my membership and am poised to explore new horizons and embark on a fresh journey,” he noted.

Receiving Otunba Dotun to the Ondo state APC camp on Sunday, at the Ore township hall, Government Field, in Ore, Ondo state, the Chairman of the APC in Odigbo Local Government, Mr. Fatai Olawale expressed joy and appreciated Otunba Dotun for joining APC, assuring him of a prosperous collaboration at APC.

Also, Comrade Bola Taiwo, Special Adviser to the Ondo state Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Union Matters and Special Duties, who was present at the reception, congratulated Otunba Dotun for joining the APC.

He said “APC is one big family. We are happy to welcome you to our family. APC is a party that is grounded in ideology and committed to good governance. We are happy to receive you today and we encourage others to do the same.”

Other dignitaries who were present at the reception of Otunba Dotun into the APC include Ondo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro; Former member of Ondo House of Representative, Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin; S.A to the Ondo state Governor, on Union Matters and Special Duties, Comrade Bola Taiwo; Odigbo Local Government Chairman, Hon. Adegoroye Taiwo, and host others.

Speaking with Peak Newspaper Nigeria, today, Otunba Dotun stated that one of the dysfunctionality is crippling the PDP, which motivated him to leave the party is it’s poor reconciliation mechanism and genuine sportsmanship among members and stakeholders of the party.

He further explained that “unlike the APC, when a primary election is conducted, those who couldn’t obtain the party’s ticket accept fate and wholeheartedly support the winner of the primary election in the general elections, but in PDP, some caucus of the party, constituted by both stakeholders and members who feel disgruntled by an unfavourable primary election resort to ganging up and refusing to support certain flag bearers.

“As a former member of the party and a one-time flag bearer of the party, I observed that PDP has a dysfunctional political ideology and the leadership of the party lacks effective reconciliation mechanism, thereby tearing the party apart in all levels.

“Also, I have keenly observed APC, I ascertained that the leadership of the party has demonstrated maturity, perseverance, patience and immeasurable commitment to the progress of the party, beyond personal interest and that why I call here (APC) my home,” Otunba Dotun said.
