The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has appealed to Nigerians to remain prayerful for former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, amid rising political tensions and public controversy surrounding recent comments attributed to him, Peak Newspaper reports.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
According to the statement, the government expressed concern over what it described as a pattern of “false and distracting allegations” allegedly made by the former governor, noting that Nigerians have watched developments with shock.
The Commissioner maintained that Governor Makinde is currently fully engaged with efforts to address the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the state, stressing that the security challenge requires full attention and should not be politicised.
He added that the governor would not be drawn into political exchanges, especially at a time when security agencies are working to secure the release of the kidnapped victims.
The statement further alleged that the pattern of political rhetoric surrounding the incident could undermine ongoing security operations and distract from sensitive rescue efforts.
It also referenced past political remarks linked to former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, as well as earlier allegations credited to Fayose regarding political developments in Oyo State, describing them as part of a wider pattern of political tension.
Meanwhile, the government noted that President Bola Tinubu had on two occasions publicly commended Governor Makinde’s handling of the security situation since the abduction occurred on May 15.
Reassuring residents, the Commissioner urged the people of Oyo State and Nigerians at large to remain calm and hopeful, stating that Governor Makinde has been working “day and night” to ensure the safe return of the abducted children and teachers.
