The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has removed its spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Muyiwa Adejobi, from his position at the Force Headquarters in Abuja and redeployed him to the Delta State Command Overnight

Adejobi, who had served as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for an extended period, was known for his frequent clashes with civil society groups and activists. His tenure was marked by accusations of suppressing dissent, mishandling human rights cases, and protecting institutional misconduct within the police force.

Controversies Surrounding His Tenure

Adejobi faced multiple petitions, including one filed by human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, urging the United States to revoke his visa over alleged human rights violations.

He was accused of orchestrating the harassment of Olamide Thomas, a nurse, and the alleged framing of Dorcas Adeyinka, a UK-based activist who has since filed a lawsuit against him.

Reports also linked him to attempts to intimidate protesters, including an incident where activist Omoyele Sowore accused Adejobi of directing the theft of his personal belongings during a demonstration.

Public and Institutional Reaction

His promotion to the rank of ACP earlier this year had sparked public backlash, with critics calling it a reward for controversial conduct rather than merit. Activists, including Sowore, have described him as “one of the worst policemen ever recruited into the Nigeria Police Force,” citing a culture of impunity.

The Nigeria Police Force has not issued an official statement detailing the reasons behind his redeployment.
