Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that poor governance in Nigeria is one of the reasons many older politicians are still active in politics, Peak Newspaper reports.

Speaking in an interview, Atiku stated that if the country had been properly governed over the years, many senior political figures would have stepped aside by now and allowed younger leaders to take over.

“Nigeria has suffered from years of poor governance, and that is why many of us are still active in politics longer than we planned,” he said.

According to him, his continued involvement in politics is not about personal ambition, but about the desire to see better leadership, stronger institutions, and a system that respects the constitution.

“Our continued presence in politics is not about personal ambition or gain. We remain in politics because we want to push for better leadership in the country.”

Atiku’s remarks are already stirring fresh political reactions, especially as conversations around leadership, governance, and the future of Nigeria continue to grow.
