The Federal Government has announced an increase in electricity generation, revealing that output rose from 3,951 megawatts (MW) to 4,300MW between March 28 and April 10, 2026, Peak Newspaper reports.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the Minister of Power on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji.
According to the government, the improvement aligns with earlier assurances by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who had pledged a noticeable boost in electricity supply within a short timeframe.
Tunji attributed the increase in generation largely to improved gas supply to thermal power plants, which rose from about 605 million standard cubic feet per day to over 704 mmscfd during the same period.
He explained that mechanical availability of power infrastructure also remained stable, peaking at over 7,796MW, while operational availability improved from approximately 4,208MW to more than 4,694MW, indicating better efficiency in converting available gas into electricity.
Despite minor daily fluctuations, the government noted that the overall trend signals a gradual recovery in the power sector, driven by enhanced coordination among stakeholders and increased fuel supply to generating companies.
To sustain the gains, the Minister has inaugurated a Gas-to-Power Monitoring Committee tasked with ensuring steady gas supply, addressing delivery bottlenecks, and strengthening collaboration between gas producers and power generation firms.
