Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, has made a shocking revelation, alleging that individuals suspected of belonging to Boko Haram and other criminal networks were discovered on official recruitment lists of both the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.
Wase disclosed this while contributing to a heated debate on Nigeria’s worsening security challenges, warning that the infiltration of security agencies by dangerous elements poses a grave threat to national stability.
He noted that even a former Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Muktar Betara, could confirm the disturbing development, describing it as evidence of deep systemic failures in the vetting and recruitment process.
The lawmaker stressed that such lapses weaken the nation’s fight against insurgency and banditry, as criminals could easily compromise operations from within.
Wase called for stricter background checks, enhanced intelligence screening, and a full overhaul of recruitment procedures to ensure only competent, trustworthy individuals are admitted into the armed forces and police.
The revelation has sparked fresh concerns about internal sabotage and the need for urgent reforms across Nigeria’s security institutions.
