The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a Katsina-born carpenter, Mustapha Marwana, after an investigation cleared him of any connection to the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Peak Newspaper reports.

Marwana was arrested over alleged links to the Ansaru terrorist group in connection with the May 15 attack on three schools in Oriire, where 39 pupils and seven teachers were abducted.

According to a security source, a DSS investigative panel found no evidence linking the carpenter to the group’s membership, financing, logistics or operational activities.

Following the findings, DSS Director-General Tosin Ajayi ordered his immediate release and approved an initial ₦3 million compensation to help Marwana meet his immediate needs and restart his livelihood. He was subsequently released into the custody of his lawyer.

The DSS said the compensation is part of efforts to support individuals who are cleared after investigations and facilitate their reintegration into society.
