Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, is reportedly making plans to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Multiple Sources disclosed to Peak Newspaper.
According to reports, the governor has already met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and leaders of the APC to discuss the terms of his possible move to the ruling party.
Insiders say negotiations are still ongoing, but one of the key offers allegedly presented to him is an APC senatorial ticket after completing his tenure as governor.
Sources also claim that, unlike some governors who previously defected to the APC, Bala Mohammed may not be handed full control of the party structure in Bauchi State. Instead, he may only receive the senatorial ticket and would not be allowed to nominate his successor for the governorship position.
Reports further suggest that the governor was also asked to apologise to Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Tinubu, over a controversy that occurred in 2025 when Bala Mohammed’s son publicly criticised Seyi Tinubu for distributing Ramadan palliatives in Bauchi State.
The development has reportedly caused shock and disappointment within some PDP circles, particularly among allies of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who see the move as a major setback for the opposition party.
If the defection eventually happens, the APC would increase its number of governors nationwide, further strengthening its political dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of this report, Bala Mohammed has not officially confirmed the defection, and negotiations are said to still be ongoing.
