The family house of former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, in Ubima was attacked on Friday, while the nearby secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was set on fire by yet-to-be-identified assailants, Peak Newspaper reports
The incident happened just hours before Amaechi arrived in Ubima to flag off the ADC membership registration in Rivers State.
Reports say the attackers later attempted to stop his convoy, leading to a gun battle with security operatives. The security agents reportedly repelled the attackers.
Speaking after registering, Amaechi urged supporters to remain calm and avoid violence.
“Don’t be violent. They cannot stop us from meeting in our communities,” he said.
He also praised security agencies for their quick response and called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
Amaechi further urged Rivers residents to register massively with the ADC ahead of future elections.
