Former Anambra State governor and presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has said that rebuilding national unity would be his foremost priority if elected president in the 2027 general election, Peak Newspaper reports
Obi made the remark in Abuja after undergoing the presidential screening exercise of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, where he was cleared to contest as the party’s sole presidential aspirant ahead of the election.
Speaking with journalists after the screening, the former Labour Party presidential candidate lamented what he described as growing division, insecurity and economic hardship across the country, insisting that Nigeria could not achieve meaningful progress without unity and inclusiveness.
We are not a united nation; my primary goal is to bring Nigeria together, Obi stated, adding that his administration would focus on restoring security, rebuilding trust among citizens and creating an environment where Nigerians can live and work without fear.
He also stressed the need for responsible leadership and policies capable of addressing poverty, unemployment and rising public anxiety, saying national development would remain impossible in a deeply divided society.
