The United States and Nigeria are in advanced discussions over a comprehensive security partnership aimed at tackling terrorism and violent extremism, a US congressman has disclosed.
According to the lawmaker, the proposed agreement would deepen cooperation between both countries in addressing threats posed by groups such as Boko Haram and other sectarian militias destabilising parts of Nigeria and the wider West African region.
He explained that the talks focus on intelligence sharing, counterterrorism training, and enhanced military collaboration, with the goal of strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to confront insurgency and protect civilian populations.
The congressman described the potential deal as a critical step in reinforcing regional security and reaffirming Washington’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.
