Pandemonium broke out at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat in Akure, Ondo State, on Sunday as suspected political thugs allegedly loyal to one of the disqualified House of Representatives aspirants, stormed the party secretariat and disrupted the announcement of result of party’s primary election held on Saturday, Peak Newspaper reports.
The incident, which occurred during the collation and announcement of results for the House of Representatives primaries, forced party leaders, delegates, supporters and Electoral Committee members from Abuja to flee the secretariat over fears of violence.
It took the intervention of security operatives at the venue who guarded the Committee members out of the venue to prevent them from being attacked as the thugs prevented them from announcing the results.
The disruption at the APC Secretariat further intensified the growing controversy trailing the APC primaries in the state, amid accusations of interference, intimidation and attempts to manipulate the outcome of the exercise.
According to party members at the venue, who explained that tension escalated when members of the primary election committee were allegedly instructed to halt the process at a critical stage of the exercise
