There was tension in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State after a meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was reportedly disrupted by suspected political thugs, Peak Newspaper reports.

According to eyewitnesses told Peak Newspaper that the group stormed the gathering and allegedly declared that no other political party should operate in the area except the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We don’t want any other party here apart from APC,” one of the individuals was heard shouting during the disruption.

The incident caused panic among those attending the meeting, forcing the gathering to end abruptly.

The development has sparked concerns among residents and political observers about rising political tensions ahead of future elections.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have not released an official statement on the incident.
