The State Security Service (SSS) has arraigned seven alleged commanders of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) before the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Peak Newspaper reports that the suspects are accused of receiving funds and material support from Finland-based IPOB leader Simon Ekpa, currently serving a six-year sentence for promoting terrorism in Finland.
A key suspect, Ibrahim Ali Larabo, an illegal immigrant from Niger, allegedly handled large sums for IPOB activities in the southeast. The SSS described the defendants as IPOB commanders, arms dealers, couriers, and ESN fighters directed by Ekpa.
The agency also updated ongoing terrorism trials, including cases linked to the 2011 UN building bombing, the 2022 St Francis Catholic Church attack in Owo, and other attacks across Benue, Plateau, and Ondo states.
DSS Director General Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi has ordered a full review of inherited cases and directed forensic investigations to ensure diligent prosecution.
