Nigerian activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has announced his intention to run for president in the 2027 general election, Peak Newspaper reports.
Sowore said Nigeria urgently needs a departure from the current political establishment, which he accused of driving the country into deeper poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship through failed policies and poor leadership decisions.
According to him, the same political figures have dominated the country for years without delivering meaningful change to ordinary Nigerians.
He maintained that a new direction focused on accountability, economic reform, and people-centered governance is necessary ahead of the next election cycle.
Sowore’s expected campaign is likely to focus heavily on youth mobilisation, governance reforms, and criticism of Nigeria’s political elite — themes that have defined his political movement in recent years.
