Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has called on Nigerians to embrace modern technology, including AI-powered glasses and other digital surveillance tools, as a means to expose police brutality and dismantle what he described as the entrenched “old order” in the country.
Sowore, known for his outspoken stance on social justice and government accountability, argued that the fight against oppression and abuse of power can no longer be waged with traditional methods alone.
Instead, he emphasized the need for citizens to arm themselves with cutting-edge innovations capable of documenting, broadcasting, and amplifying instances of injustice in real time.
According to him, tools such as AI-enabled glasses, smartphones, live-streaming devices, and encrypted communication platforms could play a decisive role in holding law enforcement officers accountable while also mobilizing global awareness around human rights violations in Nigeria.
“The old tactics of intimidation and silencing dissent are losing their grip,” Sowore noted. “With digital technology in the hands of the people, we can defeat the structures of impunity and ensure that every act of brutality is recorded and resisted.”
His comments come amid growing concerns about police misconduct and the persistent demand for reforms in Nigeria’s security and governance systems.
Sowore urged citizens not only to protest but also to innovate and strategize by leveraging technology as a tool for liberation.
