The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has given the leadership of the National Assembly seven days to investigate allegations involving more than ₦6.3 billion in constituency project funds or face legal action, Peak Newspaper reports.
In a letter dated June 27, 2026, addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, SERAP urged the lawmakers to refer the allegations to anti-corruption agencies for a thorough investigation and the prosecution of anyone found responsible. The organisation also demanded that all diverted or unaccounted public funds be recovered and returned to the national treasury.
The letter, signed by SERAP Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, stated that the allegations were contained in the Auditor-General of the Federation’s 2022 Annual Report, published on September 9, 2025. According to SERAP, the report details widespread financial irregularities involving constituency project funds across several federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
SERAP also called on the National Assembly to publicly disclose the identities of contractors, companies, their shareholders and beneficial owners who allegedly received payments for constituency projects that were never executed.
The organisation warned that it would institute legal proceedings if the National Assembly failed to act within seven days.
According to SERAP, the Auditor-General’s report highlighted alleged irregularities involving agencies such as the Environmental Health Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON), the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Vom, the Federal Polytechnic, Udana, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
