The Edo State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly staging a fake kidnapping in an attempt to extort four million naira from the family of one of the suspects, Peak Newspaper reports.

Police say the suspects, identified as forty-eight-year-old Lucky Alabi and thirty-seven-year-old Taiye Enahoro, both from Uneme Akpama Community, were arrested by operatives of the Igarra Division following intelligence-led investigations.

According to the police, the alleged plot was carried out on June 23, when Enahoro reportedly called Alabi’s relatives, falsely claiming he had been kidnapped and demanding a four-million-naira ransom.

Detectives later uncovered the deception, and both suspects allegedly confessed to their roles. They are expected to be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Monday Agbonika, has warned residents against staging kidnappings or engaging in any form of criminal deception to extort money. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
