The Nigerian Senate has announced a donation of ₦50 million to the families of five individuals who lost their lives during the rescue operation for abducted schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Peak Newspaper reports.
The announcement was made during Wednesday’s plenary session, as lawmakers paid tribute to the victims, describing them as heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the effort to secure the safe return of the kidnapped pupils.
The Senate expressed its condolences to the bereaved families and commended the courage and selflessness displayed by those who lost their lives during the operation.
The donation is intended to provide financial support to the affected families and recognize the sacrifices made in the line of duty.
The rescue operation, which drew national attention, led to the successful recovery of the abducted schoolchildren, though it came at the cost of the lives of five members of the rescue team.
