The Sokoto State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security coordination for humanitarian operations, following a courtesy visit by a delegation from the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS).
The UNDSS team, led by the Chief Security Adviser for Nigeria, Mr. Newton Senyo Kufe, and the Area Security Adviser for the Northwest, Mr. Juan Cuadrado, was received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, psc, and his management team at the Command Headquarters in Sokoto on Wednesday.
The meeting focused on deepening collaboration between the Police Command and UNDSS to ensure the safe and effective delivery of humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations across Sokoto State. Discussions highlighted the need for improved joint risk assessments, enhanced coordination of humanitarian movements, and the sharing of vital security information affecting aid operations.
In his remarks, CP Ahmed Musa assured the UNDSS delegation of the Command’s continued commitment to maintaining a secure environment for both citizens and humanitarian partners.
“The Sokoto State Police Command remains resolute in ensuring that all aid workers and international organizations operate safely and without hindrance. We are ready to deepen our cooperation with UNDSS to protect humanitarian personnel and guarantee access to communities in need,” he said.
Responding, Mr. Newton Senyo Kufe commended the police for their consistent support and collaboration, describing the engagement as “crucial for aligning efforts towards a more secure humanitarian space.”
“Our shared goal is to strengthen the security architecture that allows humanitarian partners to reach affected communities safely and effectively,” he noted.
Both parties agreed to establish stronger communication channels and hold regular coordination meetings to address emerging security concerns.
The visit, which ended with a group photograph, underscores the shared resolve of the UNDSS and the Sokoto State Police Command to promote peace, safety, and humanitarian access across the state.
