A Nigerian police officer identified as Newton Isokoehi has come under heavy criticism after a viral video surfaced online showing him threatening to kill anyone who records him while on duty, Peak Newspaper reports.
In the video posted on his TikTok handle, the officer said: “I’m waiting for the day I will be on duty with my rifle and anyone will video me, I will send him to his grave.”
He also accused senior officers of permitting civilians to record police officers on duty, warning that such actions could have deadly consequences.
While speaking in the clip, Isokoehi expressed deep frustration over his 26 years in the police service, lamenting poor welfare conditions, lack of allowances, and the burden of purchasing uniforms with personal funds.
According to him, the situation only began to improve slightly under the current Inspector General of Police.
The video has since triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling on the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector General of Police to subject armed officers to regular psychological and mental evaluations.
Some social media users also raised concerns about alleged substance abuse among certain officers carrying rifles on public roads, insisting that such threats endanger civilian lives.
