The Plateau State Government has rescued 16 children, aged between four and nine, who were being trafficked from Bassa Local Government Area to Anambra State. The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Caroline Dafur, disclosed that security personnel intercepted the traffickers as they attempted to move the children to a motor park for onward transportation.

Handing the children over to their families and community representatives in Jos, Dafur confirmed that the suspects behind the act have been arrested and will face prosecution after investigations. She described the intervention as a significant victory in the fight against child trafficking, stressing Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s commitment to defending the rights of vulnerable children.

The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, while Mrs. Miriam Riti, wife of the Bassa LGA chairman, assured that steps have been taken to ensure the children’s welfare, including medical checks and school enrollment.
