The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has donated a boat ambulance to the Ogun State Government to enhance emergency healthcare delivery in riverine and hard-to-reach communities across the state, Peak Newspaper reports.
The donation, which forms part of UNICEF’s ongoing partnership with the Ogun State Government, is aimed at improving access to timely medical services, particularly for pregnant women, children, and other vulnerable residents living in riverine areas.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, UNICEF representatives said the initiative was designed to reduce delays in emergency response and improve health outcomes in communities where road access is limited or non-existent.
Officials of the Ogun State Government welcomed the intervention, noting that the boat ambulance would strengthen the state’s primary healthcare system and support efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality.
According to the state government, the facility will be deployed to serve multiple riverine settlements, ensuring that residents can be transported swiftly to health centres during medical emergencies.
The collaboration underscores UNICEF’s commitment to supporting state-level healthcare initiatives and improving the wellbeing of children and families in underserved communities.
