A newly constructed classroom block worth ₦222 million, reportedly facilitated by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has sparked outrage after being commissioned without desks, chairs, or other basic learning materials at Ojah Comprehensive High School in Akoko-Edo, Edo State.
The project, identified as ZIP20240448, was executed under the Federal Ministry of Education through the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, and awarded to a contractor, Sam Sedi Nigeria Limited. However, civil society group MonITNG alleged that the project was poorly delivered despite the huge sum allocated for its completion.
According to the group’s field report, the classroom blocks lacked essential fittings such as furniture, proper flooring, drainage, and landscaping — rendering them unfit for immediate academic use. Photos and videos shared from the site showed empty classrooms with no desks or chairs.
MonITNG has called on anti-graft agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to probe the contract execution, citing possible misuse of public funds.
The group also urged the Federal Government to strengthen monitoring mechanisms for constituency projects to ensure proper implementation and accountability.
As of the time of this report, Senator Oshiomhole and representatives of the Federal Polytechnic Auchi have yet to respond to the allegations.
