Dr. Oluwadare Ayeni of Obafemi Awolowo University argues that while Nnamdi Kanu’s detention aligns with constitutional and national security principles, Omoyele Sowore’s protest style may unintentionally complicate Kanu’s release.
According to Ayeni, Sowore’s confrontational activism often makes the state perceive a coordinated anti-government movement, causing it to harden its stance rather than soften it.
“What could have remained a judicial matter becomes a political test of state authority,” he writes.
Ayeni insists that resolving Kanu’s case will require dialogue, legal redress, and institutional reform — not confrontation — to balance justice with national unity. 🇳🇬
