Eight people, including Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and his relative, Fineboy Kanu, were arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja, Peak Newspaper reports.
The protest, led by activist Omoyele Sowore, caused heavy gridlock and heightened security around the Presidential Villa and major parts of the city.
The Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrests, denying claims of live ammunition use and explaining that tear gas was fired to enforce a court order restricting protesters from sensitive areas.
He said those detained would be arraigned once investigations conclude.
