A legal expert and human rights lawyer, Chief Femi Falana, has urged the United States Congress to hold President Donald Trump accountable for what he describes as “reckless actions” taken during his second term in office.
In an opinion piece published by Tribune Online, Falana criticised Trump for engaging in foreign military strikes without apparent congressional backing, including a recent campaign in Venezuela and threats against Nigeria tied to allegations of religious violence.
Falana said that Trump’s approach, which included unilateral airstrikes and threats of intervention, undermines established constitutional checks and balances in the United States and international law. He urged the US legislature to investigate these decisions and impose sanctions where appropriate.
The column also referenced Trump’s controversial comments on Nigeria’s internal security situation and religious freedom concerns, which have sparked debate among Nigerian politicians and civil society alike.
Falana appealed to the world community, including the United Nations, to scrutinise actions that he believes violate sovereign rights and global norms.
This call comes amid ongoing international discussions about Nigeria’s security challenges and relations with the United States
