The Governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reportedly been cleared to contest for a second term in office.
According to a Facebook post shared on Tuesday by the Chairman of Odigbo Local Government, Hon Taiwo Adegoroye, the governor’s eligibility for another term has been affirmed, Peak Newspaper reports.
In the post, Adegoroye wrote: “His Excellency Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, The Executive Governor, Ondo State. 8 years. Two terms confirmed. Congratulations.”
The revelation followed a recent ruling delivered by the Federal High Court in Abuja on May 26, 2026, which reportedly maintained that former President Goodluck Jonathan is constitutionally eligible to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The court held that the issue of Jonathan’s eligibility had already been settled by previous judgments of the Federal High Court in Yenagoa and the Court of Appeal.
Prior to this development, controversies and legal debates had trailed Aiyedatiwa’s eligibility to seek another term after completing the second tenure of late former Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
