The Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has launched a traditional spiritual campaign aimed at confronting kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists and other criminal groups operating across Edo State, Peak Newspaper reports.
The monarch led an early morning procession with traditional priests, priestesses and worshippers, where ancient rites were performed to call on the ancestors and spiritual forces to expose and punish those behind violent crimes in the Benin Kingdom.
According to Oba Ewuare II, the spiritual exercise is designed to complement the efforts of security agencies in tackling insecurity. He said traditional institutions also have a duty to help protect lives, maintain peace and safeguard communities from criminal activities.
The royal father expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in Edo State, noting that the worsening security situation requires both conventional and traditional approaches to restore order.
He also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies and community-based initiatives, stressing that collective efforts are needed to defeat criminal elements and ensure lasting peace across the state.
The monarch’s action has generated widespread reactions, with many Nigerians sharing different opinions on the role traditional rulers and indigenous spiritual practices can play in addressing the country’s growing security challenges.
