In a bold move that’s shaking North Africa, Moroccan youths are taking to the streets, chanting “No World Cup, Health Comes First!” as they protest the government’s plan to spend a whopping $2 billion on building the world’s largest stadium ahead of the 2030 World Cup.

The youth-led movement, Gen Z 212, began organizing peaceful demonstrations across 10 major cities using TikTok and Discord. Their message is loud and clear  build hospitals, not stadiums!

> “We love football, it’s in our blood. But we’re missing the basics. Yes, let’s build stadiums  but let’s also build our education and healthcare systems,” said 25-year-old activist Hajar Belhassan.

The protest erupted after the tragic death of eight women in a poorly equipped maternity ward in Agadir, exposing the cracks in Morocco’s health system. So far, over 400 protesters have been arrested, with three confirmed dead after violent clashes in Lqliaa.

Despite the chaos, the movement isn’t backing down. Their demands?

Free quality education
Better healthcare
Affordable housing
Job creation
English as a second language

While the Prime Minister has called for dialogue, the youths insist: “We won’t stop until change is real.”

Many across Africa are now praising Moroccan youths for standing up  setting an example for a generation tired of misplaced priorities.
