The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently intervene and cushion the impact of the recent surge in petrol prices on Nigerian workers and citizens, Peak Newspaper reports

In a statement released today, the labour union urged the government to introduce a cost-of-living allowance for workers, implement a wage award, and provide tax relief to help ease the growing financial pressure on households across Nigeria.

The NLC also emphasized the need for immediate steps to revive the country’s public refineries, arguing that restoring local refining capacity would help reduce the nation’s dependence on fuel imports and stabilize petroleum product prices.

According to the union, the continuous rise in petrol prices has significantly increased transportation costs, food prices, and the overall cost of living, leaving many Nigerians struggling to cope with daily expenses.

Labour leaders stressed that urgent action from the government is necessary to protect workers and prevent further economic hardship.
