The Nigerian Navy has rescued several people, including children, following the collapse of a building in the Alakija area of Lagos State, Peak Newspaper reports.
The victims were pulled from the rubble during a coordinated emergency response and taken to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said naval personnel responded immediately after receiving a distress call about the incident. They joined other emergency responders in carrying out search and rescue operations at the scene.
According to the Navy, the swift intervention led to the successful rescue of several trapped victims, who were immediately evacuated to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital in Ojo, Lagos, for emergency care. Medical personnel at the facility are continuing to provide treatment to those injured.
The Chief of the Naval Staff commended the rescue team and hospital staff for their professionalism, courage and quick response. He also praised other emergency agencies and members of the public whose combined efforts contributed to the successful operation.
The Nigerian Navy expressed sympathy to families affected by the building collapse and wished those receiving treatment a speedy recovery. It assured the public that all rescued victims would continue to receive the necessary medical support.
The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and supporting civil authorities whenever required, stressing that protecting lives remains one of its constitutional responsibilities.
