Governor Peter Mbah has called on young people in Enugu State to take advantage of the ongoing recruitment into the Nigerian Army, describing military service as both a career opportunity and a pathway to national development, Peak Newspaper reports.
The appeal comes as the Army opens applications for its 91 Regular Recruits Intake, with the Enugu State Government urging eligible youths to apply before the deadline. According to officials, the recruitment process began on March 30, 2026, and will run until May 17, with applications conducted online and free of charge.
Government authorities emphasized that successful applicants will undergo a screening process before proceeding to physical verification at the 82 Division headquarters in Enugu, reinforcing the structured and competitive nature of the exercise.
The call is also a response to growing concerns over low enlistment from the South-East region. Historically, the military has noted that states in the region often fail to fill their allocated recruitment slots, leaving opportunities untapped. This trend has prompted renewed efforts by leaders to encourage participation and reshape perceptions about military careers.
