The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned a man identified as Igoin Peter for allegedly posing as a presidential aide and defrauding victims of N25 million through a fake cryptocurrency license scheme, Peak Newspaper reports.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly used false claims of government connections and influence to convince victims that he could facilitate the procurement of an official cryptocurrency operating license.
The anti-graft agency charged the defendant before the court on allegations bordering on fraud, impersonation, and obtaining money under false pretence.
The EFCC stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing as authorities continue efforts to clamp down on financial crimes and fraudulent investment schemes across the country.
