Human rights activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has lost the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial primary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reports emerging from the party’s primary election on Tuesday indicated that a veteran party mobiliser and elder stateswoman, widely identified in political circles as Amanda Pam, defeated Yesufu in the delegate-based contest.

Yesufu had only recently joined the NDC in May 2026 after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where she had been active in opposition politics and political advocacy.

Following her defection, she intensified consultations across the six FCT Area Councils, Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Bwari, AMAC, and Kuje as part of efforts to secure delegate support ahead of the primaries.

Political observers say the outcome reflects the influence of party structures and grassroots delegate networks in Nigerian politics, where internal alliances often outweigh social media popularity and public visibility.

The development has since sparked widespread reactions online, with supporters expressing disappointment while critics argued that political activism does not automatically translate into electoral success within party structures.
